The Cardinal Dearden Lecture honors the late Archbishop of Detroit, John Dearden, who was renowned for his work in implementing the teachings of Vatican II in the United States. Its funding was established in 1982 by a group of American bishops who wished to honor Cardinal Dearden‘s erudition, wisdom and leadership of the Church.
